Scoliosis is a spine disorder that affects 2-3% of the population in the United States. Currently, the Boston, Providence and Charleston back braces are being used to treat moderate to severe scoliosis in children. The braces help prevent curvature in the spine from progressing, but do not offer the best medical treatment. The new back brace can treat curvature in the spine and can be adjusted throughout the treatment period, a feature that current braces do not offer. It is a modifiable hard plastic brace that can be mass produced and adjusted to provide proper treatment and curvature correction as a patient grows, therefore addressing issues of comfort, affordability, requiring multiple braces throughout development, length of treatment period, and manufacturing delays. This back brace is unique from all other braces currently on the market that are designed for scoliosis because it is adjustable and can be adjusted to a young person's torso as they grow throughout puberty. This brace will provide opportunity for accelerated recovery because it will not require a lengthy fitting period; it can be manufactured ahead of time.
