Foodicine will be the first “food-makeover” television series that focuses on healthy eating for individuals that require special diets. This will also be the first television show to document the reality of the life and health crises of people with food impacted illnesses (Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Celiac Disease, Cardiovascular Disease, etc.) and the eating patterns and nutritional changes that are required to help these individuals lead healthier and more productive lives.
Foodicine will utilize a fast moving show format that combines reality footage of physician visits of patients with medical diagnoses (again, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, high cholesterol, Celiac Disease, etc.) with cooking techniques to teach the patient that eating the right foods (gluten free, sugar-free, cholesterol-free, fat free, etc,) can enhance the treatment of their specific medical condition. We have assembled physicians and dietitians from Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston and have celebrity chefs Sara Moulton (Food Network, Gourmet Magazine) and, potentially, Aaron McCargo, Jr. (Food Network) on the show. Other celebrity chefs and celebrity entertainers with illnesses that are treated by diet will be on the show as well.
Current cooking shows focus on nutrition, health, and cooking for the general public, and this focus is the current name of the game on television. Our show takes the nutrition/cooking concept to the next level by combining the reality of patients whose lives are severely impacted by food affected illnesses (which are prevalent in astronomical numbers in the United States) with cooking techniques to turn the patient’s life around. For the first time, this show will educate individuals throughout the country about the food related illnesses, nutritional foods and cooking techniques to prevent and treat these illnesses, and how to “know your own body” and tune in to one’s healthy self.
We would like the “Innovators” to know that, like all television series on public television, Foodicine must raise its own funds for production. Foodicine is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non‐profit arts service organization and a fiscal sponsor that enables tax-deductable donations to be applied to Foodicine’s underwriting. Fractured Atlas will receive grants for the charitable purposes of Foodicine, provide oversight to ensure that grant funds are used in accordance with grant agreements, and provide reports as required by the grantor. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Foodicine must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax‐deductible to the extent permitted by law.
