As the CEO & Founder or Black Girls Nutrition (www.blackgirlsnutrition.com), she has over a decade of experience in healthcare, and four years of Doctoral Studies her expertise involves the areas of obesity prevention, healthy eating, food deserts, food access, racial and ethnic health disparities, and non-profits serving marginalized communities. While working in healthcare & research for over 10 years she focuses on working with the marginalized populations of African-American, Latino of children, and women. Her passion is to touch the lives’ the individuals who are affected the most by obesity because she has lost 200lbs. Katia works very close with the community instructing affordable community workouts to promote healthy active lifestyles. As a licensed Zumba Instructor and AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor to encourage healthy fun ways for individuals and communities can stay active.
Ms. Powell is the CEO & Founder of Black Girls Nutrition, the 1st Culturally Customized Geo-Social Network for Women of Color & their Daughters Struggling with their Weight. BGN geo-social software application is for smartphones provides instant social network for WOC to connect and engage . Katia currently serves on the Board of the Fenway CDC, Planning Committee for the New England Science Symposium at Harvard Medical School, a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar, a member of the Health Committee for the NAACP, and holds several community position that focus on improving the health of the current and future generations.
Katia prides herself on her innovative thinking, dedication, passion and commitment to bring about positive health change in their lives of Americans. She is a dedicated and knowledgeable health policy advocate who is transforming health and health care for all populations with a special focus on marginalized populations.
