Our second Crowdfunding Innovation event was held January 23, 2013 at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge and once again, we supported crowdfunding projects (go fund them or just tell your friends!) from an incredibly wide variety of organizations:
Cellanyx – help prevent the misdiagnosis of #prostatecancer
Fresh Truck – accessible and affordable fresh produce for everyone
Gorilla Doorway Playgym- swing, box, pilates, abs, pullups, yoga
MilestonePod – track your running and walking shoe mileage
Seeding Labs – help improve food security in Ghana
Shea Radiance – Eco-Luxury body care brand creating economic opportunities for rural African women
Socrademy – personalized education pathway to your own success
SqueeDogs – a facebook game that helps real life pups too
USpin – smart group and place matching with a concierge twist
Uth Faction – build your own skateboard
We also had a FABULOUS panel of crowdfunders from our September event, telling their stories. Thanks to TechSandBox, Bow and Drape, and Halley Suitt Tucker for telling their crowdfunding stories. (We’ll post video after production — lots of great crowdfunding knowledge passed on.) The panel was moderated by Mike Morisy from Boston.com’s The Hive. (Check out Mike’s feature on three of the projects.) Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP did a nice wrap up commentary at the end around the legal aspects (and staffed an experts table.) Our fav blogger Janet Egan also wrote an overview of the evening. Want to read more about the event, check out Storify, watch the video on Youtube and stay tuned for more!
Big thanks to our partners, especially Anna’s Taqueria for dinner! (They do an awesome job with a HUGE variety of burritos, guac, chips, salsa and drinks. We love that they label the individual burritos so we can try them ALL!) Also UnReal Candy for dessert. The fantabulous team at Microsoft NERD Center for set up, clean up and general good guy stuff! Yelp for helping to spread the word. TRB Design for video and “audio alchemy”. Metropolis Creative for our logo, ads and the design work on our new sign. Sophwell for our pretty new sign. (Audio is SOOOO important on a panel when everyone is hanging on your every word.) Cambridge Trust, ProfitBricks, and Constant Contact for their support in 2013. And Radio BDCfor spinning the tunes! And the whole team who pulled it together — Tim, Jen, Christine, Kathy, Corey, Nat, Marianne.
