Fashion Conscious meets Fashion with a Conscience

Entrepreneur and jewelry designer Esmeralda Lambert launched her flagship store “Esmeralda” in Harvard Square Cambridge this October to be the perfect place she would like to shop inspired by her own elegant style and Latin heritage. The store features her namesake “Esmeralda Lambert” jewelry collection as well as a curated selection of unique jewelry, accessories and gifts in collaboration with other handcrafted artisans and family businesses located in the US and abroad.

At the heart of the Esmeralda brand is an entrepreneurial love story. Esmeralda came in 2010 from the Dominican Republic to study for her MBA at Babson College. She fell in love and married classmate Matt Lambert, a local Mass native. In 2013, they co-founded the “Esmeralda Lambert” jewelry line. The signature designs are lightweight statement jewelry, hand woven by women artisans in her home country the Dominican Republic. It was so important to the couple to build a brand that not only had a great product but also brought jobs and opportunity back to other women from Esmeralda’s island.

Starting with one woman artisan and a table at a Somerville craft fair, they now have a team of seven women in the Dominican Republic, jewelry sold in over 30 high-end boutiques, an ecommerce store and designs worn on fashion runways including the Miss USA pageant. Having designed jewelry for her own and friends’ weddings, Esmeralda has also expanded services to meet the void in demand for custom bridal jewelry.

In 2015, Esmeralda and Matt were awarded recognition as “Rising Stars” in Babson College’s Alumni Entrepreneur Hall of Fame. With the launch of the Esmeralda flagship store, they hope to empower more small entrepreneurs just like them to turn dreams into reality.
